Carbohydrates – Carbohydrates are one of the three main categories of foods, along with protein and fat. They consist of sugar, starch and fiber. Many carbohydrates have been highly processed and have very low fiber contents, which causes them to spike our blood sugar. With all of the hype about carbs these days, it can be rather confusing to know what type of carbohydrates and how much of them you should be eating. A few tips to get started: stay away from “enriched” carbohydrate products, focus on true whole grains, and reduce sugary snacks and baked goods.
